About the piece: “Volage” is inspired by a work of art by Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) titled “Femme Volage”. I discovered this sculpture during a visit to the Guggenheim in New York. The overall narrative and form of this piece is influenced by the appearance and title of the artwork, which means “fickle woman” in French. In terms of its appearence, “Femme Volage” is made of stacked painted wood and stainless steel. From my perspective, when the sculpture is looked at sideways, it resembles a sound wave file. I allowed the variations in the bandwidth to affect moments of growth and climax in the piece. This led to an organic narrative in which I imagined a scenario of forbidden love that is eventually revealed and forced to retreat back into the shadows.
